Reset your Wellness with Ease

06 Oct Reset your Wellness with Ease

“The six biggest doctors in the world are sun, rest, exercise, diet, self-respect, and friends. Stick to them at all stages of your life and enjoy a healthy life.”   -Charlie Chaplin

This quote is a wonderful summary of the activities we enjoyed at the Pure Simple Wellness Reset Retreat last weekend, a personalized 3-day immersive event that I hosted at a beautiful lakeside home at SkyTop in the Poconos, PA. An intimate group of women gathered together to focus on themselves – concentrating on self-care – which included all of the topics above. Over the three days, we filled our bodies, minds and souls with delicious food, uplifting thoughts and positive energy. We hit the reset button on our health and wellness goals and created new healthy habits to add into our regular routines. We created new friendships and also released emotions that are holding us back, ready to end the year strong. It was a transformational experience for all of us. I’ll be sharing more details in my Social Media feed, so if you’re not already following me, please do so on: www.Facebook.com/puresimplewellnesswithelizabeth and Instagram: www.Instagram.com/puresimplewellness

If you are ready to hit the reset button on your healthy habits, here are a few ideas that we addressed during the Reset Retreat to get your started:

Follow a morning routine

It can be hard to stick with a solid morning routine during the summer months. The autumn season is a great time to start. For example, wake up a bit earlier and spend 10-15 minutes doing something you enjoy, such as reading, meditation, stretching or journaling. This will help start your day with positive energy and give you something to look forward to each morning.

Revisit your goals

With the end of year in sight, it’s a great time to revisit the goals you set for yourself in January. If you’ve let them slip, don’t fret. Just pick one of those goals, like eating more vegetables with each meal, keeping up with your workouts, walking each night after dinner, or sticking with your daily meditation, and start doing it now. Imagine how good you will feel at the end of the year!

Enjoy nature

Nature’s beauty is all around us – and sometimes you just need to stop and take it all in. Being out in nature can bring calmness, joy and balance. Spend time this month getting outside and feeling the wind blowing through the trees, listening to the birds chirping, and seeing all the beautiful colors of the changing leaves. Think of nature as your extended body and reconnect to your inner peace as you enjoy its benefits.

Adjust your sleep schedule

As the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, your body naturally craves more sleep. Unfortunately, with the upcoming time change, your sleep schedule can get knocked out of whack. If you’re having trouble winding down at night, try disconnecting from electronics (phone, TV, etc.) an hour before bed and reading a relaxing book instead. Ideally stop eating at least three hours before bed, so your body can focus on sleeping rather than digesting. Experiment with diffusing essential oils, such as lavender, to help you feel calmer, or having a cup of relaxing tea, like chamomile or valerian. Just a few small changes can make a big difference in getting a good night’s rest.

Eat with the seasons

Have you noticed that as the weather cools down, you crave more heartier and comforting foods? One reason is that as the weather cools down, we want to eat foods that will warm us up. In addition, autumn foods like potatoes, carrots, squash and beets, also known as root vegetables, can help provide grounding energy to keep you feeling more balanced. These foods are hearty and filling, without weighing you down.

Following these simple steps will help you physically and mentally reset this fall season, leaving you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated just in time for the new year to start!
