What Actually Matters for Your Health This Summer

24 Jun What Actually Matters for Your Health This Summer

Summer is here, and for many of us that means vacations, long weekends, kids home from school, and schedules that look nothing like the rest of the year.

One of the questions I hear most often this time of year is:

“How do I stay on track with my health goals when I’m traveling or out of my normal routine?”

The good news: you don’t need to do everything perfectly to feel your best. In fact, trying to maintain your usual routine 100% of the time often creates more stress than it’s worth.

If you’re traveling this summer, focus on these three priorities:

1. Stay hydrated

Travel days, flights, heat, alcohol, and long days outdoors can leave you more dehydrated than you realize.

Even mild dehydration can affect energy, digestion, cravings, recovery, and mood.

A few simple habits:
✓ Start your day with water before coffee
✓ Bring a reusable water bottle when traveling
✓ Add electrolytes when flying, exercising, or spending long days in the sun

Small habit, big impact.

2. Prioritize protein at every meal

Vacation doesn’t mean you need to avoid your favorite foods. Instead of focusing on restriction, focus on adding protein first.

Protein helps support muscle, keeps you fuller longer, stabilizes energy, and makes it easier to enjoy treats without feeling like you’re on a roller coaster of hunger and cravings.

Easy travel-friendly options:
• Greek yogurt
• Eggs
• Cottage cheese
• Turkey roll-ups
• Protein smoothies
• Grilled chicken or fish
• Protein bars for long travel days (check the grams of protein and sugar)

3. Keep a “minimum baseline” for movement

You don’t need a perfect workout schedule while you’re away.

Instead, ask yourself:

“What’s the minimum I can do to feel good?”

For many women, that might look like:
✓ A morning walk
✓ 10-15 minutes of strength exercises in your hotel room
✓ Taking the stairs when possible
✓ Staying active through sightseeing, swimming, hiking, or biking

Remember: consistency beats intensity.

The women who maintain their results long-term aren’t the ones who do everything perfectly. They’re the ones who keep a few simple habits in place, even when life gets busy.
