What’s your WHY?

28 Jul What’s your WHY?

I had an interesting conversation with a new client the other day. She wants to feel better. She suspects certain foods she’s eating cause digestion issues. She has a good idea of the right types of foods to eat (healthy carbs like fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats), but she’s still struggling.

In my practice, I don’t focus on calories, ‘points’ or net carbs, but rather on anti-inflammatory foods that nourish your body – which can be different for each person.

In my opinion, there is something much more important than just macronutrients. Something that can cause undue emotional stress and poor sleep, which in turn, leads to poor choices and potential weight gain and energy drain.

That something is not knowing or not living in alignment with your WHY.why-1432955_960_720

Why do you want to lose weight?

Why do you want to eat healthier?

It gets back to WIFM (what’s in it for me).

If you are doing it to look great for your college reunion, that might not be enough. What happens after the event has come and gone?  Will you go back to old habits and undo all you worked so hard to achieve?

If you are changing your diet to address a health condition or to have energy and stamina to keep up with your children – that might be a much stronger WHY.

Personally, many years ago, I was always fatigued and constantly experienced stomach and skin irritations. I made a decision to change my diet and lifestyle so that I would have the energy to make it through the day. When I start to ‘slip’, I remember how good I feel each and every day when I eat well, exercise regularly, and take time for self-care.  Then I think about how I feel when I’m not doing those things – and that’s usually enough to get me back on track.

Before you embark on any new plan, I encourage you to take the time to find your WHY!

Write it down and put it on your phone or on your mirror so you see it each morning. When you are not feeling motivated to eat healthy or to go to the gym, look at it for an extra boost of inspiration.

If you have a good story about finding your WHY and life changes you have achieved, please let me know or better yet, post it on my facebook page .

If you are struggling to find your WHY – I’m here to help!
