Looking for a Change?

24 Feb Looking for a Change?

One of the first things I recommend to new clients is to be aware of their actions, which ultimately lead to their results.

Once you have awareness of what is going on, you have information that enables you to make conscious choices based upon knowledge. When you have awareness, you move from an automatic response to a mindful response – and take back control.

Just by being aware of your thoughts, behaviors and actions can help you change your patterns.

So, for the next week, I challenge you to be more aware. Focus on one area of your life that you’d like to change.

For example, if you are not happy with your weight, be aware of what you are eating. The best way to do this is to track it. If you are not happy with your finances, track everything you spend for the next week. Yes, that means even that $5 latte! If you are exhausted every day, track how much sleep you are getting – and so on. That which you measure you can manage.

A great way to check in and see what’s happening is to journal. This enables you to get your thoughts out of your head and to observe your mental chatter. It’s amazing what you can learn by putting pen to paper. I know many of us (me included) resist journaling – but it’s an incredibly powerful tool. Studies have proven it can have positive impacts on your physical, mental and emotional health.

If you find yourself stuck and don’t know what to write, just write down the first thing that comes to mind. Yes, that means, even if that thought is: “I hate journaling. This is stupid. Why am I doing this!” The next thing you know, you are writing about why you hate journaling, what feelings it brings up, etc. and you are on your way.

If you need more help, try one of these prompts as you start journaling:

  1. What do you wish was different about your life?
  2. What’s one thing you could do to improve your life?
  3. What was your favorite thing that happened today (or yesterday)?
  4. What one thing are you proud of that you did today?
  5. Describe your ideal day
  6. What’s one thing you can do today to move towards your ideal day?

Send me an email and let me know the ONE area you are going to be more aware over the next week, so I can help you stay accountable. I can’t wait to hear what you learn after one week of awareness!
