Strawberries for Self Love

07 Feb Strawberries for Self Love

I love February because it’s time to focus on Love – which also includes Self Love! With Valentine’s day next week, I thought I would share with you a simple and delicious treat, that doesn’t throw your healthy eating habits out the window! Chocolate Covered Strawberries.

Did you know, Americans eat an average of 3.5 pounds of fresh strawberries a year? We enjoy them right out of the carton (washing them first of course!), with a dollop of whipped cream, in smoothies, in fruit salads, on top of ice cream or pancakes and more.

Strawberry Benefits:

Strawberries are a rich source of Vitamins, like B9 and C as well as manganese and potassium. They are also rich in antioxidants and may have benefits for blood sugar control and heart health. One cup of whole strawberries contains less than 50 calories and is very low in carbs (> 100g), making them a sweet healthy snack. They also contain 3 grams of fiber per cup.

Did you know, according to the American Kennel Club, strawberries are safe for your dog? Just make sure they’re fresh – never canned or strawberries in syrup. Just don’t overdo it!

Strawberries also are great for your skin! They contain the anti-oxidant ellagic acid, which prevents collagen destruction, i.e., wrinkle formation! Strawberries are used in masks to fight oily skin and to nourish and revitalize your skin. The juice is very effective in lightening blemishes and scars from acne, too!

Check out this simple recipe for Chocolate Covered Strawberries, so you can treat yourself and your Valentine Sweetheart healthfully!
