Super Green Smoothie

YIELDS:

2 people

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup spinach (or other leafy green)
  • 3 stalks celery
  • 1 apple, cored
  • ½ cucumber
  • ½ lemon or lime (peeled)
  • 1 scoop of clean protein powder
  • 1 cup water

Optional: ice & handful of cilantro, parsley, dill – or other herb or ½ inch of ginger. Add more liquid as desired.

If this is too ‘green’ for you, add a peeled orange or a cup of mango or pineapple for added sweetness or see the Berry Green Smoothie recipe for a better beginner smoothie!

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Add all ingredients into high speed blender (putting softer items on the bottom)
  2. Put blender on low and slowly move up to high, using tamper as needed to include ingredients into blending process.
  3. Blend for approximately 45 seconds or until smooth.

NOTES:

Feel free to experiment with different leafy greens and fruits.  If the smoothie is too bitter or not tasty, add some additional fruit to your liking or a bit of raw honey or stevia for added sweetness!  Ideally, you want to move to a 3:1 ratio – greens to fruits.  However, move to that ratio slowly and you will truly enjoy your smoothies.  I like cinnamon in my true ‘green’ smoothies!
